SUPPORT FOR TEV THROUGH ANNIE

The premiere of “Annie”, one of the most important musicals around the world with its 100 people staff and the live orchestra, took place in Istanbul Zorlu PSM. Çimentaş Education and Health Foundation and IEK were very happy to contribute to the musical by providing 100 needy, handicapped and abandoned children with the opportunity to watch the musical, which was staged by Mozart Academy at Bornova Cultural Center on November 9th and 10th for the sake of TEV (Turkish Education Foundation). We hope that all children will engage more in arts, sports and cultural activities and wish Mozart Academy success for the upcoming projects.

LIBRARY NEEDS MET BY ÇESVAK

Çimentaş Education and Health Foundation continues providing support for the schools in the nearby districts. Tire Büyükkale Mediha İçel Elementary School Principal Taner Ceylan and his colleagues met Ali İhsan Özgürman, the Chairman of ÇESVAK Board of Directors and the Founder Representative of IEK, to thank for the donations of 600 books for the school library and new chairs for the school cafeteria.

PLAQUE OF APPRECIATION TO ÇİMENTAŞ GROUP AND IŞIKKENT PTA BY ECEV

The Aegean Modern Education Foundation (EÇEV) thanked the benefactors and sponsors who contributed to promotion of equal opportunities in education.

The founding members of EÇEV, the members of the Board of Directors and the employees of EÇEV came together for the Meeting of Founding Members, which took place on Wednesday, September 19 at Kordon Hotel. On the same day, a ceremony of appreciation was also planned to thank the benefactors and sponsors, who significantly contributed to the realization and popularization of activities that aim to promote education.

In her opening speech, Yasemin Resitoglu, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EÇEV, explained how necessary and important the NGO’s are while emphasizing the need for more diverse and innovative projects by organizations such as EÇEV, which was established in Izmir in 1995 by 96 intellectuals to fight against the inequality of opportunity in education. She also said, “Today, there are individual and corporate benefactors among us. As a foundation, we manage to move foward thanks to our benefactors. We are glad to have them with us. In this meeting, we would like to thank our benefactors, who greatly contributed to our efforts in ensuring the equality of opportunity in education, in the presence of our founders”.

First, the contributions of the benefactors who have donated/allocated buildings, land and premises for the activities to be held by the foundation and paid the operational expenses since its establishment, were appreciated by the foundation. Then, the contributions of the institutions which have supported the foundation by hosting branded educational projects and traditional events were acknowledged by the foundation. Finally, the contributions of the individuals, organizations and groups who have created certain amount of resources for the foundation in the last three years through donations, social responsibility projects and activities. During the meeting, emotional moments were exchanged while the founders and former board members were awarding the plaques of appreciation to the benefactors. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Izmiroğlu Family, Carfi Family, Çimentaş Group, Izmir University of Economics, Yaşar University, Ekin Koleji, Izmir Özel Türk Koleji, Izmir SEV Elementary School, Izmir Palas, Çesme Boyalık Beach Hotel, Eldor Electronics and Yaris Kabin were some of the benefactors and sponsors that were awarded plaques in the meeting. Meral Somer, Halil Tokoğlu, Necla Kardeş, Rami Berki, Sevgi-Reha-Sema Aysay, Alim Ahmet Şenocak were also awarded plaques of appreciation due to their individual donations to the scholarship funds and activities of the foundation in the last three years. Finally, EÇEV-ITK Jumble Sale Volunteers, IEK PTAs, Melbourne Republic Cumhuriyet Korosu, EÇEV Event Team Volunteers and Aydan Sakbas were appreciated due to their examplary social responsibility projects and activities.

RENOVATION OF THE LAB OF ÇİMENTAŞ MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Science Lab of Çimentaş Middle School, which was established by ÇESVAK in 1985, has been renovated and epoxy floor coating has been applied to the school floor.

ÇESVAK, which meets the needs of schools every year after handing them over to the state, has renovated the science lab of Çimentaş Middle School in the 2017-2018 academic year. To ensure better conditions for students in terms of education, ÇESVAK has also had the school floor coated with epoxy.

On Monday, September 25, Kadir Kadıoğlu, Bornova District Director of National Education, and Ali Ihsan Özgürman, ÇESVAK Board Member and the CFO of Çimentaş, attended the opening of the science lab. In his opening speech, Mr. Kadıoğlu advised students to try to learn more than what they learn at school and read a lot of books. Then, ÇESVAK Board Member Ali Ihsan Özgürman provided students with information about Çimentaş and ÇESVAK. In the ceremony, Kadir Kadıoğlu, Bornova District Director of National Education, presented a plaque to CESVAK Board Member Ali Ihsan Özgürman to thank for the contributions of ÇESVAK. After the ceremony, they visited the classrooms and stated that they very pleased of the cleanliness of the classrooms.

SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION FROM ÇESVAK

Kars Cement Plant, which is the only factory that operates in the province and becomes the highest taxpayer of Kars every tax year, pleases the people of Kars with social and cultural events.

Kars Cement Plant contributed to education by building a “conference hall” in Kars Merkez Ataturk Elementary School. The opening ceremony for the new conference hall, which was built by ÇESVAK, took place at school with the participation of the Provincial Deputy Directors of National Education Gökhan Altun, Osman Urlunç and Yener Kay, the General Manager of Kars Cement Plant Yasin Sarıçamlık and the Head of Atatürk Elementary School Alparslan Çeçen as well as the guests and parents.

In the ceremony, Gokhan Altun, the Provincial Deputy Director of National Education, presented a certificate and plaque of appreciation to Yasin Sarıçamlık, the General Manager of Kars Cement Plant. Besides, the Head of Atatürk Elementary School Alparslan Çeçen and parents thanked ÇESVAK for its contributions.

UNICEF AND ÇİMENTAŞ MET THE NEEDS OF A KINDERGARTEN

UNICEF collaborated with the Board Members and the Chairman of ÇESVAK to meet all equipment needs of Sarıkamış Vilayetler Birliği Kindergarten in Kars.

Officials from both organizations visited the school and listened to Filiz Karahaliloğlu, the Head of School, to get detailed information about the school and its needs.

Öner Akgerman, the Chairman of ÇESVAK, said, “I am an industrialist. An industrialist does not only produce and sell goods but also gives back what he/she takes from the society in various ways. This school is one of the examples of such projects”.

Prof. Dr. Talat Halman, the President of UNICEF National Committee for Turkey, stated, “This school was built for the children and the world citizens of the future. We hope that all children at the age of 5-6 will be able to go to kindergarten in the 100th year of our Republic and all our industrialists as well as our government will facilitate this by working together. We are in this together as a nation. We hope to see much better days and years”.

Sarıkamış District Director of National Education Bulent Dağdelen thanked the officials from UNICEF and Çimentaş for meeting the needs of the school and presented a certificate and plaque of appreciation to them.

Filiz Karahaliloğlu and the teachers prepared and served local desserts to their guests.
